 Jackson,MS

Mary Catherine Hootsell, 55, passed away Tues. May 17, 2011 at the Central Miss. Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held Thurs. May 19, 2011 from 5pm.-8pm. at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 10am. Fri. May 20, 2011 at the funeral home with a 3pm. graveside service to follow at the Old Pine Hill Cemetery in Sicily Island, LA.

Mary was born in Natchez, MS and has lived in Jackson, MS for the past 26 years. She attended the College Drive Seventh Day Adventist Church in Pearl, MS. Mary was a registered nurse and throughout her career she worked as a nurse at the Jeff Davis Memorial Hospital in Natchez, the Crossgates Manor Nursing Home in Brandon, she was the nursing director at the Glenburney Nursing Home in Natchez, and she also worked at the MS Dept. of Medicaid in Jackson. Mary was very creative and she enjoyed sewing, listing to all kinds of music, her passion for the past few years have been playing computer games, and she loved her two Chihuahua dogs. She is preceded in death by her parents, Beau and Cora Harris; her daughter, Laura Christin Hootsell, and her adopted brother, Wilmer Scott Harris.

She is survived by her son, David Abbott and wife Marcia of Jackson, MS; one granddaughter, Emily Abbott of Jackson, MS and her two close friends, Katherine Stripling and husband Glen of Pearl, MS, and Judy Herring and her boyfriend John Bolmes of Brandon, MS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the MS Animal Rescue League 5221 Greenway Dr. Jackson MS 39204-3212.
